CRÊPES (FRENCH PANCAKES) FOR THE CHANDELEUR...

CRÊPES (FRENCH PANCAKES) FOR THE CHANDELEUR...
Candlemas, a Catholic holiday is celebrated exactly 40 days after Christmas – every 2nd of February to be precise. For the Catholics it is a feast to commemorate the Virgin Mary’s purification and the presentation of the child Jesus. Originating as a Roman feast, this tradition has been observed from generation to generation and even to this day.
In France, Candlemas holiday is called La Chandeleur, Fête de la Lumière or jour des crêpes. One of the highlights of this French celebration is eating a lot of crêpes on Chandeleur, along with a bit of fortune telling while the crêpe is being made. Part of the French tradition is holding a coin with the writing hand and a crêpe pan held by the other hand. The crêpe is flipped into the air. If the crêpe is caught in the pan, it is believed that the family will be prosperous for the rest of the year. (Source : Bordeaux apartement).
